12 First Date Questions That Actually Reveal Something

Most first date small talk follows the same predictable script: job, hometown, how long you've lived here. None of it is wrong exactly, but none of it tells you much either. Here are questions that tend to surface something more useful, without turning the date into an interrogation.
What's something you used to believe strongly that you don't believe anymore?
What does a genuinely good weekend look like for you, with no obligations?
What's a small thing that instantly puts you in a bad mood?
Who's someone in your life you'd drop everything for?
What's something you're currently trying to get better at?
What's a compliment you've gotten that actually meant something to you?
What's a rule you have for yourself that most people don't know about?
What's the most spontaneous thing you've done in the last year?
What do you actually want more of in your life right now?
What's something you're proud of that most people wouldn't guess?
What's a disagreement you've had recently, and how did it end?
What does feeling taken care of by someone actually look like for you?
None of these are trick questions. They just move past the resume version of a person faster than the standard script does, which is really the whole point of a first date in the first place.
Velvet Rabbit's five-minute video introductions push past small talk fast, so questions like these can happen before you've committed a whole evening to finding out.
