How to Talk About Sexual Boundaries Before You Need To

Most people put off the boundaries conversation until it's already relevant, which is exactly the moment it's hardest to have clearly, because emotions and momentum are already in the room. Having it earlier, when nothing's on the line yet, tends to go a lot better.
A simple way to start it
Something as direct as "before we go further, I want to make sure we're on the same page about what feels good and what doesn't" does most of the work. It signals that boundaries are expected and normal, not a mood-killer or a sign of distrust.
What to actually cover
What you're comfortable with and not comfortable with, stated plainly rather than hinted at.
How you each prefer to signal if something needs to stop or slow down in the moment.
Anything that's a hard no versus something you're open to discussing further.
A boundaries conversation doesn't have to be heavy or formal. Treated as a normal part of getting to know someone, it usually takes a few minutes and prevents a lot of avoidable discomfort later.
Velvet Rabbit's profile questions ask members to think about boundaries early, so conversations like this one aren't happening for the first time in the moment.
